In 1987, one of the most prominent figures on the French political scene was Jean-Marie Le Pen, leader of the extreme right. At that time, he gave an interview to the French edition of Playboy.

During that interview, when discussing his divorce, he said he had no intention of paying his ex-wife any money, casually adding that she could "go do some housework." Shortly after the interview was published, Playboy received a call from Pierrette Le Pen, Jean-Marie's ex-wife, who said, "I read my husband's interview. Can you give me a job?"
Thus, the July 1987 issue of Playboy France was published with the sensational headline " MADAME LE PEN NUE FAIT LE MÉNAGE" on the cover.
The issue contained an eight-page spread showing Mrs. Le Pen, then fifty years old, in various poses, both nude and domestic. Sales of this issue of Playboy exploded, from 130,000 to 800,000 copies, illustrating the enormous impact of the affair.
